                         FIRST ARKANSAS TRANS-MISSISSIPPI CAVALRY
                     (known also as Fagan's / Monroe's Arkansas Cavalry)

	Organized as Fagan's/Monroe's Arkansas Cavalry, the unit decided to use
the name shown above early in their career.  It was not until Nov. 30, 1864,
however that this designation was officially sanctioned by the Confederate War
Department.

	The regiment spent its entire career in the Trans-Mississippi Department,
serving in Arkansas, Missouri and the Indian Territory. The regiment participated
in over twenty-five various type skirmishes, engagements, etc. during its career.

	There is a report in the Official Records stating that five members of the
unit had been captured by Federal troops in early 1865 behind their lines.
Because they were captured behind Federal lines, they were being held as
irregulars at Tortugas, Florida. There were eventually recognized as regular
Confederate soldiers and moved to a regular prison camp.
